Martin Short’s wife passes away. Nancy Dolman dies at age 58
Martin Short’s wife of 30 years passed away over the weekend, according to Short’s manager. Few details of Nancy Dolman’s death are known; according to RadarOnline, the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to Short’s U.S. residence at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, but no one was taken to the hospital.
“Sadly, we can confirm that Martin Short’s wife did pass away. We do not have any other comment to make,” said his manager, Marc Gurvitz.
Three years ago, Dolman was diagnosed with cancer and had a tumour removed, and there is speculation that her death may have been caused by the disease.
Dolman was born in Toronto in 1952, and met Hamilton-born Short when the duo performed together in the former city’s production of Godspell—she was Gilda Radner’s understudy.
They married in 1980 and have three grown children together — Katherine, 27, Oliver, 24, and Henry, 20. Dolman’s brother, Bob, married Short’s fellow SCTV actress Andrea Martin, but the couple didn’t last.
Dolman is perhaps best known for her role as Annie Selig Tate on the 1980s ABC sitcom Soap. She retired from acting in 1985.
Short is nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award this weekend, contending in the supporting actor drama category for his role on Damages. He also voices the Cat in the Hat on PBS’s upcoming series The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!
He was scheduled to appear to promote the show at the 2010 TV Critics Association Press Tour at the Beverly Hilton earlier this month, but due to personal reasons he was unable to attend.
No funeral arrangements for Dolman have been announced.
