Cyndi Lauper has always been known as the 80′s pop singer that recorded cult classics back in the 1980′s. Since 2005, Lauper has been a regular player on the Broadway stage. Now comes word that Lauper and noted openly gay actor Harvey Fierstein are now working on a Broadway collaboration together.
Sources say that Lauper will write songs for a Fierstein musical that he is writing based on the British film ‘Kinky Boots’. The movie is about two men who make boots for transvestites. When asked about why she wanted to write songs for the Fierstein musical, Lauper commented that ‘I was always on the outside. When you are hanging around on the outside, you start to see the other people that are on the outside’.
The project was announced back in 2008 but now has been given the green light. Kinky Boots was nominated for a Golden Globe Award back in 2005. The heart of the movie is about the two men who suffer financial collapse and decide that marketing boots to transvestities would be the way out of financial hell. After getting the idea from some drag queens in London, the men come back to Northampton and the story tells of their adventure.
