Oops, they’ve done again. Radical animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), released another over-the-top commercial promoting vegetarianism in hopes of landing a coveted spot on NBC during Super Bowl 43. Apparently the networking giant drew the line after viewing the thirty second ad featuring scantily clad models using vegetables in compromising positions. At the end of the publicity stunt, a bold statement is black lettering reads, “Vegetarians have better sex.” Reminiscient of videos shot in the 1980s, screaming guitars play as the women strip down to their lingerie and get up close and personal with broccoli and root vegetables. One model even goes as far to lick the pumpkin that she is holding. Aiming to air the commercial to millions of viewers nationwide, NBC pulled the plug on racy video taking into mind the context in which the advertisements are being shown. Companies vy for a coveted spot during the annual Super Bowl game and reportedly pay the networks astronomical prices to air their ads. Viewed by the young and old alike, former Super Bowl entertainment has encountered its fair share of criticism. Singer Janet Jackson went under fire when a wardrobe malfunction left her exposed on stage with a million or more viewers. PETA’s M.O. has always been to shock and dismay its audience. Bringing up differences between those who support animal rights and those who do not has been profitable to say the least. PETA’s constant media coverage has made the organization a household name.
