New York (OTL) - “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” not only topped the box office this weekend with $42 million, it also broke the record for the biggest debut for a musical beating out “Mamma Mia’s” $27.8 million, and the record of biggest debut of a live-action G-rated movie previously held by “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert”.
“Saw V” took the second spot at the box office with a whopping $30.5 million proving that people aren’t tired of the “Saw” movies yet. The “Saw” franchise is now only $2 million away from taking over the title of top grossing horror series currently held by “Friday the 13th”.
Dropping from first to third was “Max Payne” in its second week with $7.6 million.
Still in the top five after its fourth week is Walt Disney’s “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” with $6.9 million.
Taking the fifth spot in its first week with $6.3 million was the cop drama “Pride and Glory” starring Edward Norton and Colin Farrell
