Toronto - CBC is not liable for the exposure of Janet Jackson’s breast in 2004 at the NFL SuperBowl halftime show. This comes after a ruling from the Federal Supreme Court.
As you may remember back in 2004, during the halftime show performance at the Superbowl, Janet’s “wardrobe malfunction”. By that, we mean her breast was exposed for the world to see.
Because of that “wardrobe malfunction”, the network was given a $550,000 indecency fine, but luckily will not have to pay a thing.
The FCC was not happy with the ruling. They were hoping to make an example of CBC, as they believed it was all a set up.
The FCC was backed by many groups who were outraged by the “event”. A strong force pushing the FCC was the Parents Television Council, who were also not happy with the court’s decision.
Since then, broadcasters now air live events on a delay so censors can block out things of this nature.
