Speaking to Meredith Vieira on the Today show, Miley Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus spoke out for the first time about the racy photo of his daughter in Vanity fair.
Two months ago, famed photographer Annie Leibovitz photographed 15-year-old Miley wearing nothing buy a sheet. The photo created a storm of controversy.
“I didn’t know they were going to strip her down and wrap her in a blanket,” Cyrus told Vieira.
He added, “I was surprised when I saw it, but hey, that’s life. Stuff happens. You gotta deal with it.”
When asked why he didn’t prevent the photo from being released, the 46-year-old entertainer said he didn’t have the chance due to other obligations.
“I didn’t have any choice,” he said. “I had a show to do, and an obligation, to go to Washington state … playing for the troops just back from Iraq.”
Billy and Miley are currently filming a big screen version of their hit Disney show ‘Hannah Montana.’
