Academy Award-winning actress Tatum O’Neal was arrested on drug charges Sunday night.
Tatum O’Neal’s battle with drug addiction has been a lengthy and, sadly, well-documented one. She even contributed details herself, revealing to the general public her many woes.
According to reports, O’Neal was arrested around 7:30 p.m. at her Clinton Street luxury high-rise apartment where police said they found bags of cocaine and crack in her possession.
33-year old Alan Garcia, who was also arrested at the scene, is believed to be her drug dealer.
O’Neal allegedly told police she was doing research for an upcoming role.
The suspected drug dealer, Alan Garcia, 33, was also arrested and charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance.
The “Paper Moon” actress was in central booking in lower Manhattan early Monday, and was expected to be arraigned later.
The actress, 44, is said to have told police: “I’ve been clean for a long time. Can you let me go?” But this was undermined ever so slightly when the arresting officers allegedly found she was carrying a crack pipe and two bags of cocaine.
The New York Post quotes O’Neal as saying that her arrest over the weekend “saved” her from possibly ruining her life.
O’Neal is the daughter of actor Ryan O’Neal.
