The new gambling-oriented film, “21″ managed to take the top spot at the weekend, proving that it was a smart move to double down on this release.
21 Took in $23.7 million in its debut weekend.
The film starred Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, and Jim Sturgess.
They played the roles of the math students based off of the MIT students who took Vegas for millions.
The film managed to take out Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who!, knocking it from two weeks at the top.
Horton still took second place though with $17.4 million.
Coming in third was the MGM-Weinstein Co. release Superhero Movie with $9.5 million.
In fourth was Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns with $7.8 million, and rounding out the top five was Drillbit Taylor with $5.8 million.
