Journalist Dith Pran, whose story was the foundation of the Academy Award-winning film The Killing Fields, has died of cancer.
He died on Sunday morning at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Colleague and former New York Times reporter Sydney Schanberg confirmed his death on Sunday.
Pran spent 30 years of his life teaching the world everything he knew about the holocaust in Cambodia.
He was 65-years-old and died of pancreatic cancer.
He was born near the religious center of Cambodia at Angkor Wat on September 27, 1942.
He grew up seeing his country torn apart by genocide.
