As the strike deadline nears, it appears that the two unions are trying to work out separate deals.

The two unions, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, as well as the Screen Actors Guild, are no longer together.

The AFTRA told the SAG on Saturday that they are terminating joint negotiations.

AFTRA President Roberta Reardon stated “AFTRA believes it must devote its full energies to working on behalf of performers, and not wasting its time assessing whether our partner is being honest with us.”

Reardon has stated that AFTRA is working to get its 70,000 members into a contract that works best for them all.

The SAG stated that AFTRA is not acting in its members’ interests with this move.

The current film and TV contract expires June 30, 2008.
