The United States and North Korea came to a stand-still on Tuesday as the New York Philharmonic played a concert in North Korea, sparking a momentary peace between the two Cold War enemies.
A standing ovation was given to the American orchestra by the communist elite of North Korea following their performance.
They played Dvorak, Gershwin, and Korean folk songs during their set.
The music director, Lorin Maazel stated “Little did we know that we would be thrown into orbit by this stunning, stunning reaction.”
The concert was broadcast on North Korean TV for the entire country to see.
The Bush administration has played down the significance of the concert, but it is clear that at least for that set, the U.S. and North Korea were at peace.
