Dublin native Carly Smithson, was one of the 24 “Idol” contestants who made it on Wednesday to the semifinal rounds voted on each week by the show’s home TV audience.

People every where are questioning whether or not Carly should be allowed to compete on American Idol, given that she has past experience. Many have stated that she is simply an Idol plant, meaning they put her there with plans of her going all the way and winning.

First of all, it isn’t against the rules. American Idol prohibits contestants who have an existing deal, but not a past deal. According to the FAQ on the A.I. website, “…contestants are not permitted to have any CURRENT recording or talent management agreements.” Okay, nuff said about that.

Her album was called “Ultimate High” and was considered, by all standards, a complete flop.

The integrity of American Idol is in serious question over this revelation regarding one of its contestants.
