The sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, had a great weekend at the box office as it took the top spot for the second week in a row taking in $35.6 million.
This brings the 10-day total of the film to an impressive $124 million. The film is clearly going to surpass what the original managed to earn at the box office which was $173 million in total.
Coming in at number two for the weekend as Alvin and the Chipmunks which did very well taking in another $30 million. This was followed by I Am Legend at number three taking in another $27.5 million.
The total for Alvin and the Chipmunks is now at $142.4 million, while I Am Legend is now at the total of $194.6 million.
Charlie Wilson’s War took in $11.8 million at the four spot, and rounding out the top five was Juno taking in $10.3 million.
Many new Christmas openers struggled greatly as Alien vs. Predator - Requiem took in $10.1 million, while The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep took in $9.2 million and The Great Debaters took in $6.3 million.
