Warner Bros. has given the green light to make a movie based on the Green Lantern as they have hired Greg Berlanti to co-write and direct a live-action feature adaptatioin of the DC Comics’ Green Lantern.
The film is going to be based on the popular characters of DC Comics’ from the 1940s and beyond.
The story will revolve around test pilot Hal Jordan. He has a mission to defend a part of the universe. A powerful ring which was given to him by a dying alien aids him in this. This alien reveals that there is indeed a Green Lantern Corps. out there which will play a major role.
Berlanti stated “To me, this was one of the last great comic book movies that hasn’t been made. It was a comic book with a real mythology that you would see in a lot of the space operas and the sci-fi books. The best part about it, anybody can become one of the Green Lanterns because anyone can end up with that ring.”
Berlanti is currently the executive producer of the ABC show “Dirty Sexy Money,” as well as “Brothers & Sisters” and “Eli Stone.”
He pitched the film and his ideas to DC executives last year using 30 drawn images depicting scenes he wanted to do if he were to direct it.
He stated “The danger and the fear from a lot of people is that it would be silly. In these post-Harry Potter and lord of the Rings days, it’s not anymore fantastical than that. It’s taken movies like that to make it feel as if a Green Lantern film is possible.”
