Los Angeles - According to reports, Kiefer Sutherland has had a history of DUI charges in the past.
The 24 star was arrested early Tuesday morning for driving under the influence in West Hollywood.
Sutherland, who plays counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer, was pulled over after leaving the Fox Fall Eco-Casino party at Area nightclub, reported TMZ.
“Mr. Sutherland was arrested for an illegal U-turn in a business district at Labrea and Beverly in our Wilshire division. It was determined that he was under the influence. After being given a field sobriety test, Mr. Sutherland was found to be over the limit,” said Officer Ana Aguirre of the L.A.P.D.
Sutherland was arrested on a separate DUI charge three years ago, in 2004.
According to court documents the 41-year-old actor was also arrested in 1988 for DUI and for carrying a concealed weapon and a loaded firearm in a public place.
In 1993, the actor was slapped with another a DUI charge.
Although Sutherland has at least four DUI charges to his name, his previous charges may not effect the latest DUI.
“The good news for Kiefer is that the old ones might not matter so much,” according to one legal expert. “Mandatory jail time is for back-to-back charges. Otherwise, the system kicks in to favor alcohol treatment, not jail.”
Since Sutherland’s 2004 DUI arrest is fairly recent, under California law, if he’s convicted, he must serve a mandatory minimum of five days in jail.
For his Sept. 24 charge, the actor was released at 5:42 AM on $25,000 bail.
When asked about Sutherland’s multiple DUI charges, a rep for the actor, Evelyn Karamanos, says “It would be premature to comment at this time.”
Sutherland is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16.
