It has recently been revealed just exactly what the ingredients are in oyster glue. Oyster glue is the sticky substance that oysters use to enable them to be able to stick to oyster reefs and rocks at the bottom of the ocean.
Scientists at Purdue University were able to determine that the oyster cement had five times the protein and more water than that what was found in oyster shells.
‘The compound that oysters use in order for them to stick to reefs is different than the shell itself’ said Johnathon Wilker, a Purdue chemistry professor said.
He said that the opportunites for the substance are boundless and could be used in engineering and medicine.
