Hitler Quoted in 2010 Yearbook

An Easton, Pennsylvania High School is under fire for a quote on success in their yearbook. The quote: “And in the last analysis, success is what matters” is a direct quote of Adolf Hitler.

The quote from Hitler was listed in the area of the yearbook that is used to encourage and inspire the students. Listed among other famous quotes, this one was somehow overlooked by staff before printing.

The schools principal is outraged and has stated that this yearbook is ruined from the misdeed. The school in no way encourages the use of Nazi propaganda to encourage its students.

It’s a disgrace that at a time where we are concerned about terrorism that a quote from one of the worst in history is AWARDED space in a yearbook. If my child came home with this in her yearbook I would be livid. What kind of faculty member would allow this to happen? Are they more concerned about inappropriate photos? If it were in my yearbook…I would get all of the classmates I could get, one by one each student would rip out that page and put it on the principals desk before MY MOM laid eyes on that! That would be my “statement”.

” could this be a situation where there are underlying philosophies that could explode someday.” That is exactly why this is a good thing. Do any of you realize how he gained so much power? The government was corrupt. The people were looking for a leader that made them feel better about themselves and their country. He realized that their ignorance was primed for power. So he selected the best way to exploit them which happened to be anti-semitism. Is this not the same environment we face today in our country? Instead of anti-jews, it’s anti-muslims. And believe me from all the posts I’ve been reading about the hatred for Muslims, the ignorance of the people in this country is clear. Hatred is spewed on the airwaves now more than ever, Democrats hate the Republicans and Repubs hate the Dems. The Chrisitans think they know God’s mind and want the laws and constitution changed to reflect their exclusive relationship and knowledge of God’s will imposed upon everyone. The philosophy of Hitler needs very much to be in our thoughts today now more than ever.

Who was the Editor of this Yearbook? Did he or she have an adult sponsor who was supposed to oversee the editing? If you are offended by it, cut that page out.
Adolf Hitler was not a great man. He was a sick psychopath who had millions of people (not just those of the Jewish Faith) murdered for the sake of racial purity.

There is absolutely nothing that came out of the mouth of Adolph Hitler that is worth quoting in a high school yearbook. You say “get over it”. The Holocaust is something we should never , get over. It should be a constant reminder of how a government can spiral out of control. The horror that that man inflicted on the world should never be forgotten and to give him credit for anything is sickening.
Before anyone responds…I am German and I am not Jewish. This is a subject that should not even be discussed. Unbelievable.

I for one think that it is just merely words. The words of a tyranical, racist monster that engineered the near genocide of the entire Jewish race yes, but just words.
To Juliemac, you cannot tell me that Mein Kampf alone was the entire catalyst for the Nazi regime, the support of the entire German nation, and the genocide of the Jews, Pols, not to mention thousands of homosexuals and Russians.
I’ve read many books of questionable (and even objectionable) opinion in college, including Mein Kampf. I have no desire to murder or torture anyone. The bottom line is that Hitler only said out loud what many people in Germany were feeling at the time. He was the one who “brought them to the table” so to speak. He didn’t brainwash a nation – nobody’s that powerful. He simply told them that their hate, angst, and spite were ok, and facilitated their rage.
Hitler was an instigator, but his book didn’t cause World War II. It was the vindictiveness and ideaology of a nation that caused it.

  1. Regardless of if you think the Nazi and Hitler were right or wrong, Hitler was one of the world most inspirational speakers. Therefore if the quote is inspirational in it’s context what’s the problem. I don’t like Malcom X but there probibaly wouldn’t be a problem with a quote of his, so if you don’t like it don’t read it don’t whine about it.

  2. I am all up for debating this topic, and regards to what was said and who said it. When it comes down to it, the man (Adolf) ruined lives of thousands, if not millions during his time of ranting, yet he also served everyone in this world a good lesson, that people are not always good! Personally, I would not find any problem with that posted in a yearbook. If the school is high grade, and they take time to teach their children of the past, every child in that school should be aware of what took place, what he did, why he did it, and the information regarding that topic. You can post the worst information in there, but if all the children know what it is, why it’s in there, they feel more comfortable with it! It’s the schools idea to put it in there, and now a-days, the students themselves post the items in the year book, they gather their quotes, pictures, events, and they do it their selves! Now, do not get me wrong here people, I find what he did (Adolf) to be wrong on so many levels, yet he played an important part in history, and if you wish to erase that part from history, you are looking at it the wrong way! If you don’t agree with me, im sorry but I feel they can put whatever they want in the yearbook, it’s fine by me!

  3. Yes, one quote sometimes attributed to Hitler might be worth remembering, “When I hear the word intellectual, I reach for my gun!”
I might add that even the worst persons in history said things worth remembering, such as Lenin, “When it comes time to hang the capitalists, they will first want to bid on the rope.”
