Court papers showed Thursday that actress Mia Farrow and models’ agent Carole White will be testifying next month about a “blood diamond” Naomi Campbell is said to have been given by Liberia’s Charles Taylor.
Both women are scheduled to testify on Monday, August 9th. It is stated that White’s appearance would last about two hours, while Farrow’s would only be about an hour. Naomie Campbell was subpoenaed to testify after she refused to talk to prosecutors on her own.
She is due to take the stand next Thursday. Sixty-two year old Taylor has been on trial since 2008 for his role in the civil war in Sierra Leone. He is accused of arming rebels in return for diamonds that were mined illegally.
Taylor is charged with murder, rape, conscripting child soldiers, enslavement and pillaging, and has pleaded not guilty. At Mandela’s dinner, White and Farrow are said to have proof that Campbell was given the diamond by Taylor. Allegedly White told prosecutors she was present when the diamond was given and allegedly Farrow was told by Ms Campbell the next morning.
Allegedly the rough diamond was among those Taylor had obtained from Sierra Leone rebels and took to South Africa either to sell, or exchange them from weapons, according to the prosecution.
