Experimental Plane Crash Claims Two in Western PATwo men from Western Pennsylvania are dead following the crash of their experimental aircraft on Saturday. According to Holly Baker, spokeswoman of the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft came down late Saturday morning around 11:20 am. The downed plane was found in the woods southeast of Franklin/Venango Regional Airport in Sandy Creek Township. The aircraft is described as a Nadiq. This type of plane is a fixed wing, single engine, two seater aircraft generally built by amateurs and hobbyists.
Authorities have recently released the names of the male victims of this experimental plane crash. The first, David A. Wagner, 57 years old of Clarion was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a former Clarion County Commissioner. According to the chief deputy coroner in Venango County, Trevor Hile, the other victim is known as Rob Carbaugh. The 54 year old man of Seneca was taken to UPMC Northwest in Cranberry Township where he was later pronounced dead.
It is unclear at this time as to why this terrible accident took place or what the expertise level of these two men were. The FAA is continuing their investigation of this incident but have no further details to release at this time.
