Be aware of your surroundings

Terrible things happen when you least expect it, ask Carley Schlentz. Carley, who is from Greensboro NC was bitten by a shark while vacationing at Topsail Island.

Carley was vacationing with her friends family and on Friday they went to the beach. Carley was having a tremendous time when she felt something grab at her leg at around 1:15 Friday afternoon. She didn’t think too much of it, thinking it was her friend playing around. She started to worry a few minutes later when she felt something tight and sharp on her ankle, then she noticed cuts and scratches on her foot. She didn’t see what bit her, but the friend’s father saw a black tail swirling. Witnesses said the shark was approximately 6 feet long.

Sasha Williamson and her father were able to carry Carley to the beach and stop the blood flow until the EMS arrived. It took about 45 minutes to get to the hospital. The doctor gave her Novocaine shots in 17 places and Carley declared that the shots hurt more than the actual shark bite.

Carley seems to have taken it all in stride. She stated that she likes the publicity after being on the CBS Early Show Tuesday morning. She even states that she is not afraid to go into the water again soon.
