Spider bite & teen’s death
An eerie story put out of Southern California concerns the death by supposedly unknown means of a 13 year old boy.
The autopsy performed on the boy’s body on Tuesday did not specify cause of death. An assumption is being made the 13 year old boy was killed by a spider.
The autopsy was performed by a Los Angeles County coroner investigating the cause of death along with Pomona Police Department. The death occurred in Pomona, California, on Sunday afternoon, June 20, 2010. When the boy went into cardiac arrest, the Los Angeles Country firefighters were called and dispatched by 911 to his house. He was soon pronounced dead in the emergency room of the hospital where the firefighters left him by emergency room personnel. The boy could not be revived, they said.
Although the boy’s name is not being released by the Pomona Police Department, anyone who has information about the mysterious cause of the boy’s death should contact police officials at (909) 620- 2095.

The allegation that the cause of his death was caused by a venomous spider was assumed by family who said that the boy was bitten about a week before his death by a spider and was feeling discomfort in his knee. There was no sign of any trauma to the boy’s body, however.

a week ago is too long for a latrodectus mactans (black widow) bite – I’m thinking
it may have been a usually non-lethal spider bite which became infected with strep, leading to septic shock. (An extreme drop in blood-pressure
resulting in cardiac arrest.) Teen boys being the way they are, he probably ignored the “discomfort” in his knee until it was too late.
Completely agree with the post. Septic shock caused by infection can have any origin. I remember once in FL, a boy technically died from a toothache. Initial thought, How on earth???!!! But the absess became so infected and traveled to his brain, eventually he was septic resulting in multiple organ failure. Very rare but possible.
Wouldn’t septic shock show up on the autopsy?
I have to agree with you. It sounds like something may have bit him and he didnt know what it was or there may be some foul play involved. Toxicology will reveal the results either way. My heart goes out to their family in this tragic time.
While septic shock would show on an autopsy, if the Medical Examiner missed the signs, the report may also miss the diagnosis.
A Black Widdow spider bite would kill in far less than a week, and would be quite obvious to notice There would be discoloration, fang marks, swelling, and gradual necrosis if not properly treated. However, not all Black Widdow bites will kill. Many are simply a defense mechanism to pressure (ie. stepping on the spider hiding in your sneaker) or harrassment.
