At first those who saw the ad thought it must be a joke. Maple Ridge British Columbia resident Marilyn Bateman was idly browsing on Craigslist when she ran across the online advertisement.

Bateman, a grandmother in her own right saw the ad for an infant for $10,000 dollars and began to shake with horror.

“This cant be, even as a hoax, oh my gosh,” exclaimed the grandmother on finding the Ad. “I was literally shaking when I opened it, even as a joke you simply don’t do that,” said Bateman.

After investigating the ad, Vancouver police moved swiftly, moving to arrest the parents of the newborn who posted the ad. Both were later released, but the child remains in protective custody.

Both parents are known to the Vancouver police, and both have extensive drug arrest histories. This is the first time that this has happened to anyone in Vancouver, according to police.

It is not known for sure if the parents were intending to follow through on the ad, which offered their newborn daughter for $10,000 dollars. The baby was taken from the home by a social worker and is in good health in protective custody.
