You better think twice before throwing away a penny, as a collection of 301 American pennies of Walter Husak gathered $10.7 million.
Over the weekend, Walter Husak auctioned off his collection of rare pennies for $10.7 million.
He stated that the amount they sold for was 10 times their expected worth. He stated “I still can’t believe it.”
The collection of pennies took him years to put together.
200 coin gurus from around the world were at the Long Beach Convention Center for the auction.
All but 13 pennies were sold by the end of the auction.
The highest was for two 18th century coins which broke the rare penny sales records, selling for $632,500 each.
According to the officials from the auction house, this was a “once-in-a-lifetime event” for coin aficionados.
Heritage Auction president Greg Rohan said that it was a “fabulous night.”
They were dated 1793 and 1814.
